The Brunch: An Informal Meeting - No talk of merger between the opposition parties

Sunday November 29, 2009

Projet Montréal wishes to rectify certain allegations presented in a Journal de Montréal article this morning concerning an informal brunch between the two opposition parties.

"I don't know who this M. Turbide is, but it seems he was intentionnaly misled. Réal Ménard informally contacted one of us about a possible meeting, a so-called "friendship brunch", where the elected officials from Vision and Projet could get to know eachother better. As the Projet Montréal elected officials were not particularly interested, it was agreed that individual presence at this event would be informal, on a voluntary basis", commented déclaré Josée Duplessis, Projet Montréal elected official and city councillor for the De Lorimier district.

This morning, Richard Bergeron and the Projet Montréal councillors have notified Réal Ménard that no Projet Montréal representative would be present at this meeting.

Opposition Merger: Not in the Cards

"Projet Montréal's programme, aspirations and values differ from that Vision Montréal. We would never have agreed to a meeting discussing the even remote possibility of a fusion between our respective parties. If Vision Montréal had a hidden agenda, we discovered it this morning", denounced Alex Norris, city councillor for the Mile-End district.

François Limoges, city councillor for the Saint-Édouard district, added that "never, in any case, would Projet Montréal agree to merge with Vision Montréal. As you will see on Monday during City Council, we are the only real opposition at City Hall, the one committed to really push important issues forward".
