Water-meter scandal: Richard Bergeron files a complaint with the police

Saturday May 2, 2009

Projet Montréal leader and mayoral candidate in the upcoming November 1st election, Richard Bergeron, has filed a complaint yesterday with the Sûreté du Québec, in relation to the water-meter contract and its apparent connection to the sale of the Contrecoeur site by the SHDM.  Mr. Bergeron also asks the force to examine the role of certain elected representatives, senior officials and Union Montréal party executives in these cases.  Richard Bergeron has handed the police a 15-page document supporting his complaint.

"I have asked Mayor Gérald Tremblay twice to hand in the water-meter files to the police," says Richard Bergeron.  "Let's wait for the City's auditor-general's report," was the answer given to him by Claude Dauphin, the current chairman of the City's executive committee.  "Let's just wait two months, three months, and why not another six months, after the next municipal election!" protested Richard Bergeron.

"What we now know concerning the water-meters is quite enough to alert the police.  And if elected representatives, senior officials or leaders of political parties have benefited from these contracts, then the police must promptly do all it can to investigate, before all evidence vanishes.  The men and women of Montreal have a right to know what constituted the Tremblay administration for the past three and half years," ended Mr. Bergeron.
